On Ugliness by Umberto Eco was an amazing anthology of readings by everyone from Joseph Conrad and Andre Bernard to Jean-Paul Sartre and Oscar Wilde. In addition, the author’s own input at the beginning of each chapter offered new insight to help develop my own exploration of the subject and its allure (both historic and contemporary).
